Our history

Dale Matthews (1920-2014)

Our firm was started by Dale Matthews, CPA in 1954. Over the years, employees and partners have come and gone. Businesses we’ve served have opened and closed. Technology has changed the way business works, and the roles and skill sets of employees in all areas of business. Consolidations have nearly eliminated the independent grain elevators that were an important part of our business 30 years ago. The advent of personal computers, and the availability of accounting software such as QuickBooks ™ has changed the way we relate with some customers.

Since its inception, our firm has sought to add value to our customers, using our many years of expertise and high ethical values. In all areas of accounting, bookkeeping, income tax preparation, farm management, trust services and business consulting, we strive to give the best service to customers we can provide.

In 2017, the firm adopted the name Lashier, Bonefas, Baldwin & Co, PC.

 Our People

David Lashier, CPA

David Lashier, CPA

Dave has over 40 years experience in the tax and accounting profession. He has been a partner in the firm since 1983. He and his wife Jacque have two daughters, and two grandchildren who can do no wrong.

Dave is an Iowan, born and raised. A lifetime of experience in varied agricultural endeavors fostered a deep appreciation for both the land and the people of the corn belt. He is a graduate of Wayne State College, and even spent a short period of time teaching in the late 70’s.

As managing partner of the firm, Dave realizes that interpersonal relationships are the bedrock for success. He is a board member of the Kay M Anderson Foundation, the Cy & Carolyn Rapp Charitable Trust, The Mary Louise Gidley Scholarship Fund, and the Ivan & Caroline Wilson Memorial Trust. He is Treasurer of First United Methodist Church and Past-Chairman of the Shenandoah Medical Center Board of Directors.

Edward Bonefas, CPA

 Edward Bonefas, CPA

Ed joined the firm in 1993, moving to Shenandoah from Waterloo, Iowa. He and his wife Nancy have two grown daughters and three grandchildren.

Ed is the twelfth of thirteen children! He grew up on a 160 acre crop share farm near Winthrop, Iowa, where the family had a Grade B dairy operation. After his father passed away when Ed was 15, he completed high school at Don Bosco in Gilbertville. He credits that education for ‘changing his life’. He is a cum laude graduate of Upper Iowa University.

In addition to his other duties for LBB, he manages the IT functions for the firm. He has a love/hate relationship with computers, especially with Windows 10 updates!

Claudia Brooks

Claudia Brooks, Senior Staff Accountant

Claudia joined the firm in 1989 as a clerical tax specialist. Over the past 30 years she has progressed to Senior Staff Accountant with expertise in tax preparation, payroll, and financial statement preparation. She is the one person here who can truly ‘do it all’!

Claudia is a native of Shenandoah. She and her husband Chuck farm a little, and play with their grandkids a lot.

Lesley Brooks

Lesley Brooks 

Lesley joined Lashier, Bonefas, Baldwin & Co in December 2015.

Lesley was born and raised in Shenandoah. She is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Graceland University. She has worked in the field of Accounting since her senior year of high school.

She is always willing to help with whatever tasks need to be completed–even if it involves rodent control! (Ask Lesley about her experiences!)

Leslie Lesley and her husband Craig have two beautiful daughters.

Nancy Quist

Nancy Quist is our receptionist par excellence. Even with three phone lines ringing and a waiting room full of people, she always greets our clients with a smile!

 

 

 

 

 

Sonya Jones

Sonya Jones wears a lot of hats in our organization. As backup receptionist, there’s no task that can’t be repeatedly interrupted! Yet, she takes it all in stride with good humor and a smile.
