IRS Extends Farmer Deadline

Farmers have been particularly affected by complexities in the new tax law. Due to this, the IRS announced today, February 28, qualifying farmers may file their returns and pay their taxes without estimated tax penalties by April 15, 2019. Normally, farmers who don’t make estimated tax payments must file and pay their taxes by March 1 to avoid the penalties. We assume most states will also extend the same courtesy. Here is the IRS announcement.

Update 3:30 pm–Iowa has also extended the time for farmers to file and pay without penalty to the regular Iowa filing due date of 4/30/19.
